CAB Hits New Acceptance Rate Record

Quality grade records don’t just happen overnight. They represent years of focus.

The Certified Angus Beef ® (CAB) brand reported a record 42% of all eligible Angus-influenced cattle qualified for the brand the week of February 14. More than 72% of the cattle entering the plants that week were Angus influenced, and that combination produced 131,000 head of certified carcasses.

The CAB acceptance rate averaged 36% for 2020.

“Angus breeders, and their commercial customers, have had their eyes on producing the kind of cattle the market wants for decades,” says Paul Dykstra, CAB LLC assistant director of supply development and analysis. “Cattlemen have made significant genetic strides to improve carcass traits. This primary factor has aligned with market conditions this winter to yield an extraordinarily quality-rich set of carcasses.”

It was also the second highest volume of CAB brand Prime carcasses — just 300 head short of a new record.
